Finger Food Recipes For Toddlers | Finger Food Recipes

Have your child finger food recipes is a great way to get to try new flavors and textures, learn new skills and even keep them entertained when you're out and about! This article offers a variety of fun recipes with your child's fingers the introduction of healthy eating and making meal times enjoyable for the whole family.

Make yourself the finger food

Young children need to eat more often than adults. They tend to graze rather than eat large portions of what is a large amount of food wasted. Processed foods are expensive, thereby affecting their food budget. They are also high in salt and sugar and can promote poor eating habits and dental caries at an early age.

If you decide to make food for your baby and toddler can be sure of the exact ingredients and fresh food always tastes better. Blend flavors, but might get spat at first, will give your child a varied palate and are less demanding as they age.

Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables should be the staple of their diet for young children. Pureed fruits and vegetables can be given from weaning onwards. As they grow to larger pieces. Cut the cucumber and celery into strips or cooked vegetables like carrots, asparagus, green beans, sweet potatoes are fun. Cooked and diced yellow, orange and red peppers to add some color.

banana pieces are great as are pieces of (mild), pear, apple, pineapple or peach. Add the yogurt.

Garlic Bread

I got a problem with Heather from Girlichef. Oh yea, big problem.  First, she takes these incredible pictures of this garlic bread that just scream, heavenly goodness.  I swear, those pictures were so awesome that I could smell it!  Right through the computer screen, wafts of garlic kept hitting me.  Shouldn't there be a warning label or something?!

So clearly I had to make it. She said it was so good that you're "eyes rolled back in your head" as you ate this. Ha! I'll show her!

So I spent the day attending to my bread. It really wasn't overly difficult or time consuming, it just needed attention quite often.  The dough was gorgeous and easy to work with, I'll admit that.

I flustered a bit as to how to cook it as I don't have a baking stone and I almost doused my whole oven with water trying to get the boiling water into the pan for steaming.  But it all worked out.

Then I ate it.  (eyes rolling back in my head).  I ate some more.  And more.  And then ate some more for breakfast the next day. No joke, this was breakfast my friends.

So here's my problem.  I clearly gained like 2 lbs. eating this and my breath smells like garlic.  Actually, smelling like garlic isn't a bad thing for me as I love it so much I could wear it as perfume.  (that's not weird is it?)

I do not make bread often as I tend to eat large quantities of it in a short amount of time.  Heather! You should know this about me!  Forcing Tempting me to make this bread was just too much.  Think about your readers, think about their ever expanding stomachs and the fact that their dreams of this garlic bread in the middle of the night might just cause them to start another loaf at 3 am!!  Oh yes.  Think about the effect you have on the garlic lovers out there and...start thinking of something else I can make with garlic.  :-)

Tomatoes and oregano make it Italian; wine and tarragon make it French. Sour cream makes it Russian; lemon and cinnamon make it Greek. Soy sauce makes it Chinese; garlic makes it good. ~Alice May Brock

Recipe from Girlichef

I'm going to send you to Heather's blog for this recipe.  She has excellent directions and is very descriptive.  I suggest using caution whe visiting the site however, she takes much better pictures than I do and they might make you try to jump through the computer screen causing injury to you and/or your computer.

There are a lot of steps but each step is simple and it really is easy dough to work with.  I suggest checking off the steps as you go, I found that easier for me.  Enjoy!

Colorful thoughts

Gostam destas?

I've been away from the blog - it's a much needed vacations. I'm having lots of work lately and with 2 kids to take care of, it's really difficult to stop by and say hi. But here I am again, to share some photos that I took as a way to inspire myself in the choice of colors for Carlota's birthday part - it's taking place next month. I still haven't decide on what to do or what colors I'll be using... Do you like these?

Essential Edibles Urban Orchard June 2011

Today is the first Sunday in the month, which means, for me, that the Essential Edibles Urban Orchard is on from 9 am until 11 am at Joslin Reserve.

An initiative of the the Joslin group of Sustainable Communities SA, Essential Edibles is an opportunity for backyard growers of vegetables and fruit, herbs, flowers, eggs and native plants to share and swap their produce, seeds and preserves.  No money changes hands and nobody goes home empty-handed.

Today I contributed lavender, rosemary, thyme, green onions and some very late basil, eggplants and chillis.

I came home with two bay branches (I'm going to dry the bay leaves), a lot of mandarins, and some salvia and native hibiscus cuttings.

The convenors recently started a Facebook page which you can find if you search 'Essential Edibles Urban Orchard'.  Please 'like' us to receive updates about group events and related issues.

Chocolate Bailey's Oreo Cheesecakes

So I've told you about my brothers cheesecake obsession.  He runs like 10,000 miles a week and in exchange, gets to eat a cheesecake a week.

I don't bake for myself a lot as I end eating too much.  So I get to have fun baking for others.  I found this and totally couldn't wait to make it for him.  Okay, I did share 1/2 of one with my daughter.

We don't drink a lot around here but I do love Bailey's Irish Cream.  Gosh, it's been years since I've had it!

My brother told me just to use cream as he didn't think the flavor of the Bailey's would come out enough to warrant buying a whole bottle.

Boy was he wrong.  I bought some mini bottles and it was delicious in this cheesecake.  You could really taste it and they were superb!

Chocolate Bailey's Oreo Cheesecakes Recipe
Recipe from Gingerbread Bagels

19 whole oreos (less if you want thicker cheesecakes)
2 - 8 oz. pkgs. cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3 tbsp. cocoa powder
2 tbsp. flour
2 eggs, at room temperature
4 tbsp. Bailey's Irish Cream
1/3 cup sour cream

Glaze:
2 oz. semi sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream

In a large bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, sugar, cocoa powder and flour.  Then add in the eggs and mix well. Add in the Irish cream and the sour cream, mix to combine.  Set aside.

Line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners.  Place a whole Oreo in each cupcake liner.

Scoop the cheesecake batter on top of each Oreo, I used a 1/4 cup measuring cup as a scoop.

Bake the cheesecake at 300 degrees for about 25 minutes or until cheesecakes are set.  Once the cheesecakes are done baking, cool them in the refrigerator overnight.  Keep them in the cupcake pan as they cool.  After they have cooled, make the chocolate glaze.

Pour the heavy whipping cream into a small saucepan and bring to almost a boil, stirring constantly.  Remove from heat and pour in chocolate chips.  Whisk the ingredients together until completely combined.  Spoon the glaze over the cheesecakes.  If you like, crush some Oreos in a food processor and sprinkle on top of chocolate glaze.

Total calories = 4121 calories
19 cheesecakes = 217 calories per cheesecake

Buffalo Chicken Stuffed Shells

I've been addicted to buffalo wing sauce.  Frank's.  My favorite.  I saw these shells and knew they would be next on the list of buffalo sauce recipes to be made.

This was my first time making stuffed shells! I thought it would be more difficult and time consuming but it wasn't. It went quick and I had the perfect amount of filling for the shells.  There were about 4 shells that didn't stay complete but I had 37 whole shells.  I posted the Chicken Enchilada shells that I made after these, I just ended up posting those first.  Whoops!

We used ranch and mozzarella but this would be great with blue cheese if you like it.

I made one 9 x 13 pan and one 8 x 8 pan of these.  We ate one pan and then froze the other.  I can't wait to have the other one!

Buffalo Chicken Stuffed Shells Recipe
Adapted from Sugar Crafter

1 package 12 oz. jumbo shells
13 oz. cooked and shredded chicken breast
3/4 cup hot sauce, I used Franks
3 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
3 oz. mozzarella cheese, shredded, part skim
3 oz. parmesan cheese, shredded
1 1/2 cup ricotta cheese, part skim
1 (8 oz) pkg. cream cheese, light
1/2 cup ranch dressing, light

Prepare pasta shells as directed on package.  Mix all the ingredients except for the shells in a large bowl.  Stuff each shell with as much filling as it will hold.  Place in a dish sprayed with cooking spray. I put these in a 9 x 13 and an 8 x 8 casserole.  Top with green onions if desired. Cook for about 20 minutes at 350.

Total calories = 4243 calories
37 shells - 115 calories per shell
