Cajun Chicken Wraps

This recipe combines two of my favorite foods.  Chicken salad and egg salad.  Seriously this is good stuff here.  The first night I ate it on corn tortillas.  The next day for lunch, it was awesome in a bowl with lettuce as a salad.  The seasoning was awesome but I spiced it up a bit more with a drizzle of buffalo sauce.

Cajun Chicken Salad

12 oz. cooked chicken breast
1/2 cup mayonnaise, light
2 tbsp. mustard
1 tbsp. cider vinegar
2 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. Cajun seasoning
2 hard boiled eggs, chopped
1/2 cup celery, chopped
1/2 cup green pepper, chopped
3 green onions, chopped
Hot sauce, to taste

Combine mayo, mustard, vinegar and spices in a large bowl.  Mix in the chicken, eggs, celery, green pepper and onion.

Serve over a bed of lettuce and drizzle with hot sauce as desired.

4 servings = 275 calories per serving

Always thinking about decor, especially table decor, I'm showing you some photos with little pieces that I'll be using some day...

The colours? Gold, glitter, lilac, that I love - and I love those golden-green little flowers, that is the kind of colour that warms my heart!

The Sweet Art, Chennai

I had the Indica Vista D90 for a few more hours, and what did i decide to do? Head over to my friend- Yalini's [& her sis] outlet- The Sweet Art.  Located in Vadapalani, I had to weave through narrow lanes and crowded streets, all the while wondering if I made the mistake of bringing this car down this road.. But luckily, made it to her store and back home with no scratches or mishaps.. phew!

The store is just about a week old and it is cute, yes that is the word that comes to my mind. Small, yet spacious, limited items but lavish enough! Yalini & Suzie - sisters have opened this store, taking their home based business a step ahead.

They offer different kinds of cup cakes [eggless & sugar free too], cheese cake, and other desserts as well. I also spotted a few savories, which are from their mom.

The simple decor, bright purple wall colour, the interesting little curio items all blended in quite well. The walls were empty, but they dint seem barren. The wall next to the counter was made of black slate sheets and had handwritten menu with pricing. A wash basin is tucked away on the other side of the counter. The Glass walls give the space a grand look.

There were about 5 tables with 4 litttle seaters in each. Apart from these, there was enough room to walk around.  I had been meaning to visit the store, but just couldnt. The day before the visit Yalini had messaged me saying I was yet to visit. I replied saying I was going to drop in today and surprise you, but you beat me to it. Alas, that day I was busy and couldnt go. So the next day, wednesday evening was when i made the trip and I did manage to surprise her [well, I think I did]

What did I try? A day ago, Suzie had shared the image of the "love bite", a chocolate cupcake with a fresh strawberry hidden within , chocolate icing and a piece of fresh strawberry. I had it in my mind, and luckily there was one piece left.!! What a treat it was, tucking into the cupcake was just delightful. The strawberry within was so fresh and delish. Enjoyed it. Apart from this, I also got to try Seeni sambal [hope i got the name right] that Yalini's mom brought to the store. It resembled a samosa [semi circle shaped] with fried onion filling, the other one had veggies within. Aunty said they make it with meat as well. She mentioned she had just made a batch of Brinjal pickle which Yalini mentioned would be part of her offering at the Home Bakers guild.

Spent some time yakking with Yalini, her mom and with her 2nd son as well. Few hours went by, and it was time to leave. Oh, how can I forget to mention the peach tea I had there. The store offers quite a variety of hot teas and coffee as of now. More to come in the days ahead.

I packed a few egg-less cupcakes that her son insisted on placing in the box. And they were all delicious as well [ friend, uncle and grandparents enjoyed them] The last one was gobbled up by my friend and Floppy got a piece as well :-)

Here's wishing The Sweet Art team all the very best! Next time you have a cupcake craving, you know where to head and you could bring me back some as well.. ;o)

Froyo Factory, Chennai

Without ice cream, there would be darkness and chaos. ~ Don Kardong

I am not the kind who craves desserts and ice creams, but fro-yo is a favorite. At home, there are days when i just whip up a smoothie [yoghurt+ice cubes+fruit]... So, one day last week when my friend I were catching up, we went out to dinner and decided to hop across to Froyo Factory for dessert. I had been chatting with Avanthi [one of the partners at Froyo] and was finally going to be visiting the outlet. We dint really know the location, so I got directions from her and tada, we were there.

A small cozy outlet, the walls adorned with a few posters on health, and related elements, the place had a nice feel to it. With a few bar stool kinda chairs, it was one of those places you hop into, grab a dessert and hop away.

We spent time reading through the menu, speaking to the man behind the counter and finally made our decision. My friend chose the Strawberry Madness, while i went for the Very Berry.

These cute containers were filled with little treats, the guy in charge told me these were add ons for the sundaes- gems, nougat, caramel, dry fruits and so on.

This is the Strawberry Madness [Rs100]- quite a  generous scoop of froyo with fresh strawberries and strawberry sauce - This was heavenly, esp for someone who loves the fruit.

And this was mine- Very berry [Rs120]- Again, a generous scoop of froyo with freshly cut strawberries, some frozen blueberries and raspberries with a drizzle of strawberry sauce. - Loved it, it had the sweetness of the blueberry, tartness of raspberry and the freshness from the strawberries...

We also got to taste the "Flavour of the day" which was "Cream & Cookies", quite nice. The best thing about Froyo desserts are the rich flavour combined with low sugar/sweetness. Also, the cup here might look small, but it is not, the portions are quite large...

If you are looking for some interesting dessert options, head straight here!! They are open till 10.30pm !!

PS: I loved the spoons, they were different and almost like  lacrosse stick :D

    Dario's once more...

And there i was, back at Dario's for a dinner. You can read my previous review here

This time with the CFG gang and Suresh Cumar [ the man behind Dario's Chennai] was also with us tonight. Instead of doing another detailed review, am going to do a photo feature with a one liner on each of the dishes..

Focaccia Bread with Sun dried tomato dip/sauce- This is served complimentary and are quite flavorful.

Antipasto Siciliano -A fun platter- Olives, olives stuffed with red chillies, gorgonzola cheese, pickled onions, sauteed Italian vegetables, Brinjal cooked the Sicilian way and sun dried tomatoes- We all loved the cheese, it was stinky but we couldnt get enough of it.

Funshi Darios- Whole roasted Mushrooms with lemon, garlic, parsley & olive oil- I loved this, even though garlic was strong.

Assorted Bruschetta platter- 2 with gorgonzola cheese, and 2 with Sundried tomato paste- The Cheese ones won hands down.

This was another platter of Bruschetta- with sauteed zucchini, olive paste and tomato & basil- I quite liked the zucchini ones]

hey, wait a minute, we were offered 2 kinds of salads, damn, forgot to take pictures of them.. One was Aranciazola [Mixed salad leaves with orange slices, gorgonzola, olives and herbs] . The 2nd salad was   Verdure Grigalate [Warm mixed vegetables- baby potatos, colour peppers, zucchini, carrots and onion]

Polpette Di Spinaci e Formatggio -- Spinach & Fresh cheese balls served with spinach cream dip -- We had this last time as well, i loved the starter but wish it was served with a spicier dip.

Pizza Carduni- Mozerella cheese, Artichoke, Broccoli, Mushroom, garlic, Olives an sun dried tomatoes - Loved it, the pizza stood still when you held it and dint wilt like a dried up flower.

Pizza Stromboli-Mozzarella, red chilli, spinach, red peppers and sun dried tomatoes-- Personally, i loved this one-

During the course of the evening, we were all suddenly talking about Tea when Suresh mentioned they had a Morrocan mint which was quite good. Well, yes, we ordered some and between us had quite a few cups of the tea. And then, he also said they had Blackcurrant tea. Ta da, I wanted it, i love the flavour and quite enjoyed the tea. but Blackcurrant tea is not something you can have cups and cups of, it is quite strong. So, if you are at Dario's,, do try the Morrocan Mint, you will not regret and will come back to Thank me! This image is of the Blackcurrrant tea :)

Ok, moving ahead, here are the main courses that we got to sample..

Risotto al funghi Porchini- Risotto made with porchini mushrooms- It was creamy and simple flavours

Risotto Siciliano- Risotto cooked with tomato sauce, red chilli, aubergines, oregano, capers and cheese: This felt very Indian, maybe because of the tomato base.

Ravioli Kamarina- Ravioli stuffed with spinach& cheese served on a bed of tomato sauce cooked with peas , chickpeas, rosemary and cream- It was quite good, i am not a great fan of Ravioli but the texture here was light and soft.

Tortellini Formaggi &Funghi- Pasta Parcels stuffed with mushroom & cheese served in Cheese sauce- I love mushrooms and so liked it, but not a big fan of white sauce[gets heavy on the tummy]

Fusili Vitale-- Fusili tossed with fresh tomatoes, sundried tomato, garlic and mushrooms- It was good, but nothing new as i make pasta quite often at home.

Crepelle Al Funghi- Baked pancakes with mushrooms, garlic, cheese, tomatoes and peas- Creamy and rich, crepes filled with veggies, dint try it last night as i had this last time around :)

Moving on, we were served not one or two, but 4 desserts, of which 2 I loved and others were Ok... not my cuppa tea.

Erupting Chocolate- Well, it was like the molten chocolate cake, you cut in and out oozes rich chocolate sauce. If you are a chocaholic, go for it.

No prizes for guessing- Tiramisu- However, this one tasted very different, and Suresh mentioned it was eggless.

Where are the other 2? Patience... I have saved the best for last... Remember the song? yes, well, here it is, the dishes that stood out amongst the others, the ones that still lingers in my mind... What is it? Read on...

Risottoragli Asaparagi- Risotto cooked with Asparagus, cream and cheese- Oh man, this was divine. you could taste the richness, the flavour and there were so many different textures. It was the highlight of the evening for many of us. :-)

Panna Cotta- A simple dessert served with Blueberry preserve and thin slices of apple- every spoonful was heavenly

The Lemon cheesecake- Hubba hubba hubba.. This one sure is a winner.. The lime flavour comes out so beautifully, it sings a song in your mouth :-)

As i bid adieu, it was one awesome evening with Friends, Food and an ambiance that oozed with FUN...
